Extending your visa in Iran is a straightforward process that allows you to prolong your stay in the country for up to 90 days. This can be only done in person and you need to be present at the visa extension center (Passport & Immigration Office). Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:

The Process:

1. Start Early: Begin the visa renewal process 3-10 days before your current visa expires to avoid any issues.

2. Visit Foreign Police Offices: You can submit your Iran visa extension request at foreign police offices located in major Iranian cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Yazd, Mashhad, Tabriz, and others.

3. Be Early: Visit the offices in the morning when they open at 8 AM to expedite the process as they tend to be busy.

4. Accompanying Guide: Consider hiring a guide to assist you with the visa renewal process, including filling out forms and submitting documents.

5. Security Check: Upon arrival at the office, expect to go through a security check where bags, electronic devices, and other items may be taken from you temporarily.

6. Initial Processing: Sign in with security and inform them of your purpose. They will guide you to the first office you need to visit.

7. Document Submission: Submit the following documents:

   • Original passport
   • Two 4×3 passport photos
   • Two printed copies of the current Iran visa
   • Two printed copies of your main passport page
   • A printed copy of entry stamps (if applicable)
   • Two completed visa extension forms (available at the center)
   • Visa Extension Fee 

8. Follow Instructions: Follow the instructions provided by the authorities. Depending on the city, you may need to interact with the Police chief and undergo interviews for your reason for extension.

9. Collection: Most often, if you apply early in the morning, you’ll receive your visa extension on the same day. However, sometimes you may need to return the next day to collect it. Bring a third passport photo for easier collection.

10. Duration: Typically, you’ll receive a 30-45 day extension.

11. Further Extension: You can usually get a 2nd extension.
